![]() ![]() I haven't had to do that in twenty-five years. And I go, "Oh." He says, "We have to reshoot it." I go, "When?" He goes, "Now, because I have to clean the set up and it's the last time I can use it." I was like, "Oh, no!" I had to rememorize all that, because it was just me talking again. You remember that scene we shot four days ago?" And I go, "Yeah," and he goes, "It didn't work. We shot that and then four days later, I'm like, "great." As an actor, I memorize everything, I throw it out, it's gone.įour days later, I get on set and Corey goes, "Casper. I'm just talking mainly, and they have a couple words, and I get mad, and I send her out of the room. There was one day when we shot me teaching, which was, I think, a three and a half page scene. If I don't deliver one thing this film doesn't work. So I was like, "Oh my God, if I suck, this whole film is gone. And I'm talking the whole time! There'd be a three or four-page scene where I would do all the talking, and maybe one of the other actors will go, "uh huh," or "yeah," and then I would just talk. Since so many scenes are done in a single take, how many times did you have to reshoot? Your director said you shot the whole thing in eleven and a half days.Ĭasper Van Dien: It was fast. And I was! I was Father.and Father is pleased. They made me feel like part of the family. It was a thrill to be brought into that dynamic of all these people that were friends and family already. Everything was purposeful in this, and I wanted to make sure that I was in on it. You have to be prepared, and you have to know what you're doing. We're shooting on film, so you can't mess up. I mean, I was very much into my character, and I would show up as it, but when I was just combing my hair that way and coming onto set-I have so much dialogue. They were just like, "This is creeping me out," and I liked that. They didn't know the character I was playing. They were like, "Oh my god, please!" And I was like, "I just combed my hair different." And then I'd come back with it, and they were like, "Oh my god." They didn't even know what I was playing. I asked Corey, I showed a picture of my hair parted in the middle and a beard and go, "Is this okay?" He goes, "Yeah, I love it." And so, I go to work with my part in the middle, I'd leave home, and my wife and kids were grossed out by it. The thought process they did was so incredible. The wardrobe was old clothes and vintage. ![]() Everything, all the details, I was so impressed. Even the old camera that we shot the stills on was an old 1970 Nikon or something like that. Even the Polaroids were old Polaroids-the vintage ones. We shot on film-not digital, nothing like that. It was fun because this is the first time we shot all on film in forever. I could tell they were all friends before, so I think that helped.Īnd, also, the fact that I was an outsider coming into this, and the only white guy, I think it made an interesting dynamic for everybody. All the cast was very thoughtful and very into their characters. He'd come back to me like 5, 10, 15 minutes later, and give me an answer on why it would work or why it wouldn't work. If I asked him a question, he would go, "Let me get back to you," and he'd go and think about it. I would ask him about the different quotes and what he put in, and he's also a thoughtful person. He's a very thought-provoking and interesting man, so sitting down and talking with him was quite illuminating. The rest of the cast knew each other going into the film, so how was joining them to work on this project?Ĭasper Van Dien: Like I said, the dialogue was amazing and Corey Deshon is an incredible writer. ![]() Battle for Saipan is out and then Monsters of California, that Tom DeLonge directed from Blink-182, is coming out soon too. County Line: No Fear is out on Amazon and Heart of a Champion is coming out on the 21st and 17th. I have Daughter out this month and then Mad Heidi is out on and then coming out on another material. I mean, I might've shot eight movies over the last four years, but they put out six of them this month. I shot them all over the last four years. Actually, over the last four years, I shot six films, and all of them are coming out this month. Wow, you've all been waiting a while for this to come out.Ĭasper Van Dien: Yeah. ![]() The pandemic was not even a thing yet when we did this. This was all four years ago, so I don't remember any of them now. When I got this script, I went, "Oh, my God, this guy is so smart." And then when I got it, I started, of course, looking up all the quotes and seeing where they came from-which Bible verse, which author wrote these. Screen Rant: What drew you to Daughter? Did anything stick out to you about the story or the character?Ĭasper Van Dien: I loved the script. ![]()
